They won't count towards the £10,000 for Gold requal but would count for the initial £750 spend for the free night.

I had automatically interpreted "this year" as meaning "this membership year", but since I got my card in early December so of course December's spend wasn't included in the "this year" (=2013) total.
After I emailed them, Barclaycard/HHonors/{someone} phoned back to confirm the free night certificate would be issued with my 1st statement, due tomorrow.
