Can't really see the point of looking down at endless blue ocean or White snow myself. Seems a bit selfish to keep the blind open mid flight. Fair enough on coming in to land when it can be interesting, but not during the flight.
Arguably it is just as selfish to expect people to close the blinds because it drives you nuts?

It is a fact of flying, some people just like the blinds open and some like them closed. In my view neither should be enforced unless there is a safety issue.
