I usually just go for the cheapest option hence buy discounted tickets and have flown in different airlines as well as budget air. But I also do take timing into consideration for certain flights. Status has no meaning for me since I don't travel that much to get any. But if I can earn mileage in the long run, it would be nice to use an award ticket now and then.

That's true. There are too many budget airlines in the industry and prices are quite competitive. For short-haul its good but only if it's long-haul, then i guess its a different story.
