Don't know about the rumor, but we stayed at a HGI last month and again earlier this week, and they still had their cookies in the lobby after 5 PM, and granola bars in a bowl at the breakfast buffet on both trips. Only problem so far was that those delicious cookies disappear quickly if you're not there to get them shortly after they put them out.
