I would go for CX, and that price is about right outside of a sale. From the summer BA's 777-300ER is being shifted off this route for a 747* with the old PE seats which are far inferior to BA's new seats or CX's offering. As said, service is more consistent on CX, but you'll stand better chance of upgrade (still almost zero mind you) and more miles on BA. At HKG you'll get access to the same lounges, at LHR it's whether you prefer T5 or T3 (I like T3 Galleries personally as its often empty).

*This change may be in preparation to slot the A380 in there when it arrives this summer. HKG is likely to be the first route.
