I actually stayed at Norwich Airport (at the Premier Inn) last night, so I have first-hand knowledge of the weather situation early this morning.
There was some snowfall overnight, and it took some time to clear the runway - which is why all the early flights were delayed. The weather at daybreak was fine - no snowfall, reasonable visibility. And it was still that way when they announced the cancellation of my flight at around 8.15. KL1502 was still on the ground at the time, being de-iced (but no chance to get on as the doors were shut)
If KL1505 had taken off from AMS at the normal time then I'm sure it would have got in... which is why the stated reason for the cancellation seems so odd.
At that point there was still talk of heavy snow reaching the area later in the day (which did not happen), so I decided not to try and get rebooked onto the later flight (and hang around only for it to be cancelled)... but to go home and travel on the overnight ferry from Harwich instead - which is where I am now.
Maybe it was just a case of an over-cautious pilot taking a "no go" decision based on a pessimistic forecast... but it does all seem slightly odd, and I can't help wondering if maybe they used "bad weather" as an excuse when it was really something else... something within rather than outside their control.
