I would suggest you to email the hotel before-hand, asking politely whether they could be so nice to secure a room/suite upgrade for you. If it's a special occasion for you, mention it and sometimes they are good enough give you a suite upgrade.
It works for me at Marriott Munich, JW Marriott KL, Renaissance Melaka and Marriott HK Skycity=)
