BA.com does not show availability for that class, it only shows 'U' (straight redemption) availability. AA uses different buckets for upgrades/redemptions.
Call again and try to get someone who knows what they're talking about.
Thank you, Andriyko. The only problem is that even though they all might be wrong, it's just not possible to get the upgrade, because you can convince anyone at BA. And if you finally have somebody on the phone that is willing to help you, the award seat might me gone.

If you have an idea whom to call (my local office is the one in the US), it would be great.
