What does BA use to decide how much TP a run is worth?

I was just reading the TP run thread. I saw a post with this run

BRU-MAD-LCY-JFK-LAX-HNL = 1280 TPs @ £1836 = £1.434/TP

I mean, my GLA - HKG return in WTP is £1300 now and will be £1600 in July, each of these runs are only netting me 240 TPs! How do they justify giving so little TP for such a long run cf. other shorter runs actually yield disproportionately good TPs!
