In October, when you learned of the schedule change, did you call AA and tell someone that you were not satisfied with the schedule change? It sounds like all you did was attempt to refund the ticket via the online process. If so, then that's not how you register your rejection of a schedule change. You have to tell someone that the new schedule is not satisfactory and that you want to cancel and refund. It sounds to me like you haven't yet done that.
