I did exactly what NickB suggested, cancelled the flight in question about 30 mins before it departed (sadly it wasn't showing signs of cancellled - it left bang on time...)

The cancellation email I got from BA showed:

For a cheap fare where I thought I was going to lose the lot I'm pretty happy to get almost £25 back - good result, thanks everyone ^
