Thankfully there have only been incidents with the plane, but with pilots already coming up with terms like firebird it will be very interesting to see the 787 reputation in this age of 24 x7 always on social media...where paid commentators and the rest of us weigh in on everything.

The media destroyed the DC10 despite fact only the THY 981 went down with a structural flaw that sadly should have been fixed as the cargo door AD came out when TC JAV was still in the factory.

The Horrific AA191 that no one in Chicago at the time will ever forget, was an unapproved maintenance procedure to save $$$. Both AA and CO were fined for using forklifts to remove/replace the wing engines and one copied the other thinking it was a great procedure.

Ultimately that's what is disturbing about the Current CO culture where everything is about going the cheapest route possible; cut corners, etc. no matter how bad the decisions are or whether they cause operational disruption. CO seems to be a culture to see how low they can set the bar and still get away with it.

UA seemed to be about raising the bar ever higher from maintenance to pilot training to systems. To this day UA811 landing cannot be replicated in any simulator.

Hopefully those parts of UA are still in charge and these 787 issues prove to be teething issues in the age of social media...time will tell.
