If you look at a map of Rome, you want to be staying (in my opinion) west of the Colosseum and east of the Tiber.
That sounds like a good rate & good idea. I would kind of miss the hotel lounge atmosphere in the evenings to wind down, but could find something to replace it with. Does the apartment have a website you could post the link to?
