Which also means the reverse is possible. That MI will be able to thru check bags to NH to LAX.

You may want to call Changi Airport and arrange a meet and greet service to help her with luggage and check in (payable service though)..
That was my understanding, hence my confusion; but the NH staff at LAX were pretty insistent. I didn't know how to ask them to look it up in their own systems, and my mom got nervous, so here we are. The meet and greet is a brilliant idea; don't know if I have enough lead time but will try. Thanks!
