I'd be surprised if the chip/freeRAM allowed DDWRT.
Then you could run your own VPN for better security and bypasses.

This is what I'd do:
1. Preconfigure the router at home.
2. Wire it to the hotel's wall and agree to the ToS (if the router has no web page access).
3. Disconnect the notebook. Give the router USB power with a charging cube.

I would either bring a Ethernet cable or USB extension

=Secured wireless VPN for everyone in the family.

Of course if travelling alone, I'd just run the VPN locally on my MacBook.
