There seems to be a 50% bonus if you convert to Avios points every 6 months or so. This is what I have done. Generally Avios require more points than Aeroplan (for premium cabins, Y is usually cheaper), however with the 50% that swings things in favour of Avios, and they usually have better availability than AP. I feel like a sucker when I use my Aerogold card as I only get 1:1.
