Swiss offered this years ago when skiing there, with the bags arriving at your hotel that evening. On departure, they would collect them the evening before and they would reappear at the baggage claim of your home airport. This avoided mountains if ski luggage on Swiss trains, which is very awkward.

Being Swiss, it all worked like clockwork. Not sure I'd trust UA's baggage handling, though.
