I did the same thing. Bought 1 VR in the AM at CVS. Then 2 more VR late in the day at another CVS. They were the first two purchases on the card. Regretted the second purchase as I thought it was an obvious flag, so I immediately bought some gas and then used it to pay for dinner. No call from Amex.

I've also been buying VRs/GC from CVS with my Hilton Amex, so I need to start putting more everyday spend on these cards. But it's hard to do, as my Ink cards get a lot of that sort of spend (value my Chase cards a lot more than Amex). And then I need to put spend on my prepaids.

With a new card, I've started spending on the Platinum card in the past 2 days.

Yesterday, I bought $500 beans at a local drug store. Used the card for a handful of normal spend, too (about $100). Today, I used the card for a couple other items (around $100) and tried to get another $500 beans at a different branch of the same drug store. Initially the cashier processed it as a debit. We corrected that, ran it as credit, and I swiped my card. Card declined. Swiped again, declined again. I shrugged, and used a different (non-Amex) card, that went through. Concerned about the card, I stopped and used it successfully at the grocery store for a small ($50) spend on the way home.

Just got a call from Amex asking me to call back to talk about my account.

No doubt, the two $500 hits at a drug store within 24 hours made a little buzzer go off there. I'm not terribly concerned about a full-blown FR (I was truthful about income when applying, have a good, long record with Amex, etc.).

But before I call and start talking about my recent spending, I'm curious if they can see what item(s) were purchased at those drug stores. If so, I'll save my explanation about the expensive prescription meds I was getting and just play dumb about cash equivalents.

Is there a consensus here as to whether they can see what was purchased, or only the purchase amount?

Thanks!
