I had a series of bad luck last year, 1 claim in August and then I have another claim in December. For both I need a police report for my platinum card. I am in the process of getting a police report for the second claim and I also was curious since each item was +$1,000 which to me is a large amount so I am making the claim.

I don't think I would make a claim for a smaller amount, but they do have a trigger if you have too many claims.

For Example in the last two years traveling on business a few stores overcharged me then another store charged me twice. I had to make a claim so that I would get my money back due to the principle (was only $50-$100). However, I got a letter later on from Amex that stated that if I had claims like this they would have to review my card priveleges.

I am a walking billboard for Amex as I feel it's the best card ever. My suggestion is to not make claims for small amounts if you can eat it.
