If I was Diamond and wasn't allowed breakfast in the restaurant, I'd complain to corporate. I'm pretty sure the policy was not under any circumstances intended to give Diamonds
less benefits than Golds, and Golds get the excellent restaurant breakfast.
If a hotel chooses to give Golds EL access in lieu of restaurant breakfast (like the Hilton New Orleans - St. Charles), that's within the scope of the rules. But achieving Diamond status should not -- in any way -- reduce your benefits!
Or, to put it another way... this is a policy that makes me very happy to stay Gold ($95 annual fee, here I come...) and carefully
avoid qualifying for Diamond!
