While the nature walks around Odawara Hilton are indeed nice, there are much better hiking trails in Hakone proper. They just aren't within walking distance of the HR Hakone.

The Odakyu free pass is for max 3 calendar days, that's another good reason to limit visits to two nights!
If he's traveling with four, then he might be better off with renting a car once in Hakone.
