I was on the phone to Amex yesterday as I wanted to question the value of my Plat card and spending a combined £600 a year on my BA PP and Plat. I was trying to negotiate some MR's but they weren't prepared to do this.

One interesting aspect was if I downgraded to a Gold they would provide this fee free for the first year and the double points on Travel, Overseas and supermarkets. They also offered a non website promoted card, a Gold Rewards Plus card. This offers the gold chargecard features with travel insurance and 4 airport lounge passes (instead of the normal 2) per year for a fee of £285.

I complained about the Cathay Pacific Card not being permanent with the Plat. They responded that this was at the discretion of Cathay. I also challenged the lack of events after the ones last batch. They are due to call me back to see what is planned in the near future.

I think the £285 fee is probably not good value. Currently I think I will keep the Plat for an upcoming trip and wait to see if the Cathay card is renewed. If it isn't and I can't negotiate some extra MR I might cancel.
