I'm trying to understand whether he will lose that seat assignment at some point prior to travel (which happens to be next weekend).
I had my wife bounce out of a confirmed E+ seat twice recently. Once in September after my CPU cleared and again last week after we check-in when the United Club reprinted my boarding pass from NZ stock to UA stock.

Generally if it happens it's pretty straightforward to get it fixed to call/go to the check-in desk and have them put back in the original seat.
