That's exactly it: all of the benefits that the others here have stated, with the key being that you have a few hours to kill.
Most of my normal U.S. domestic connections aren't long. Even if I had access, it wouldn't do me much good. It's really the short-haul connecting to long-haul (or vice versa) where sometimes you're on the ground for 3-4 hours where the lounge really comes in handy.
