I know the strategy for booking a stay for someone else (add their name to the reservation). I've done this in the past with no issues.
Here's my situation:
I gave my uncle (same last name) a stay for a number of nights in Maui in a few months. I'm a big business traveler and almost always stay at SPG properties. I'm usually going to the same client location, so I utilize my ambassador to book many weeks at the same time. I had him book a reservation for me for work travel overlapping with the trip I had booked for my uncle. He mentioned the overlap to me and I told him I'm still finalizing my plans and keep both reservations.
Obviously, I'm not going to Maui. Will there be any issues about having two reservations overlapping like that at the same time? Or will I have to stay at a Marriot/Hilton that week instead so I don't have any problems?
Thanks in advance.
Should not be an issue. Get the name changed on your Uncle's stay to his name and all should be just fine. Now if you are trying to game the system and get points or extend benefit, then you may have issues. Determine which is more important, your stay or your Uncle's.
