Lounge benefits vary based on the needs and wishes of the traveler and the offerings of the lounge.
For many, the best benefits are access to airline agents working in the lounge who can rebook or adjust reservations to resolve delayed or cancelled flights, and a reasonably quiet place to work with a laptop. On the other hand, some lounges at some times, may be short-staffed for agent assistance and may be crowded with other customers. Even using the same lounge of the same airline, the experience will differ from time-of-day/day-of week from excellent to poor.
And to add to the above, some lounges also have showers which after a long flight (transcon red-eye, tpac or tatl), can really make a difference in starting one's day
