Neglected unaccompanied minor

On 12/23/12, my 15 year old grandson was booked on a flight from Edmonton to Nashville via Chicago. He was delivered to the airport and into the care of UA as an unaccompanied minor, for which an additional fee was paid. The weather was atrocious and the flight was ultimately cancelled. I have no problem with the cancellation. It is what happened after that that is the problem.

My grandson was left on his own to roam the airport on his own. No one called his parents to come back and pick him up. No one kept up with him or gave him any food. Finally, about 11:00 PM my son was called to come get him. He was booked on the same itinerary for the following day.

It is my feeling that United really dropped the ball here. I don't think we should have to pay for a service which was not delivered. Any suggestions as to how to proceed?
