They escorted all the first class passengers who were in the FIL. (I believer you can only enter FIL if you are flying 1st class). Since I am GS and was flying 1st class it worked out. The policy for escorting the passengers is dependent upon the staff availability (and sometimes discretion).
I've been in the ifl lounge at sfo a number of times and never seen anybody escorted anywhere. They call the flights and that's it.
