Unless you are saving a seat considered primo by some, such as bulkhead or exit row (which an 11 y.o. cannot occupy anyway), virtually no one will object to you holding a middle seat, especially behind the exit row.

I do agree that CP holders ought to be able to check in their Companions simultaneously with themselves, especially as many Companions are children.
