Thats what my friend is doing now. Even on the One Way fare, BA is cheaper by around 170 Euro. Really unimpressed by this whole UK border ........!
Please let's not pretend that it is only the UK border that does this. For example in the US you wouldn't be able to transfer airside at all - you would have to lineup and go through the whole customs and immigration process (and have the necessary visas). ISTBC but I am sure this is even true if you are continuing your journey on the same aircraft (e.g. the Air New Zealand flights that go via LAX).
