Did you already pay for the ticket or were you just going to buy it in person? I presume that an E-Ticket was not an option as you are connecting using a Thruway connection that may not be E-Ticket enabled. I'm not sure if that is different in Canada but it is a VIA Rail Station. Can't say I've ever had quite that run around in the US. Sorry to hear about your experience.
