Makes sense to me - given that the advance purchase fare is around $32, that's certainly a lot less expensive per-ride than the 10-ride pass. Keep in mind Amtrak's cancellation policy (I believe you have to cancel 24 hours in advance for a full refund) if you're not going to take a previously-purchased trip. And unlike many airlines, which have varying same-day policies, if you miss your train, you'll end up paying the full fare to take the next one, which can get expensive if you make a habit of running late.
That said, I find taking the train to be a lot nicer than driving - no traffic, fairly infrequent delays, and generally a lot less stress.
