Make sure your card is in the booking and don't check in online. Arrive at the airport last minute and check yourself in at the desk. You will not have seat most likely if your cabin is oversold. Check in agent will then make a phone call to Flight Management to assignt you a seat. They usually ask if you are suitable for upgrade so be nice. I would say that is the easiest way of getting an upgrade. You would have to be sure that your cabin is heavily overbooked though. Flight may be oversold by 10 to 20 seats but it may still leave with empty seats due to missed connections and no shows hence no upgrades. That would be a risk to take.
I'm not sure this is advisable.
