I don't think the O/P had a sense of expectation. It is a known phenomenon and understandable fascination, and so I don't think it's unfair to ask about the context of op-ups.

And if they are being doled out, how might he be higher on the list? Things like check-in and ordering special meals may affect this, so it's a fair question.

Jumping on him for merely asking about it is on par in this forum with "if you don't like it, hire a private jet" for usefulness.
