OP, how important is date selection/season? If you don't mind having weird dates to fly JFK-NRT, then you could do NH C/F ex JFK. There are two flights on that route. NH9 ex JFK and NH10 ex NRT are morning flights, while NH1009 ex JFK and NH1010 ex NRT are in the afternoon.

The YQ surcharge is hefty, but it's not much compared to the actual ticket price (that is, if you're not redeeming economy). It's the same amount regardless of class; mine was $744 this time. Last year it was $760.
