1. probably safe to get in writing that you met the T&Cs so they don't try to dupe you later. and most people have said that they need to be contacted to get your miles at all. it takes less time to contact them than it took you to write your post. not sure why you wouldn't just contact them IMO.

Citigold checking waives the fees for the first 2 statement cycles. I don't believe the Citibank and Basic accounts do though:
"Waive monthly service fees on your Citigold checking account by linking accounts. There's no monthly service fee for the first two statement periods. After that, we'll continue to waive the monthly service fee if the combined average monthly balance of your eligible linked accounts is:
$50,000 or more for all linked deposit and retirement accounts"
