* If she does the combined room booking, does her cc get swiped for the hold on all 3 rooms when she checks in or will our cards be swiped as well? We will be arriving at different times since we live in 3 different cities/departure points. If the rooms are booked separately even though she's paying for them all in the end, I'm guessing that means our cards get swiped for holds too, or is that a wrong guess?

* She has zero status because she just signed up last year. Since she'll be paying for my room, does that mean my Plat bennies such as upgrades won't apply for my room? I'm guessing that's the case. But is that the case if the room(s) are booked under one confirmation #, or if we're reserving our rooms separately then I'd still get mine even though at the end it would all go under her MR#. A bit confused on how that one works & could have two different answers.
Sharon, I'll let you know what my experience has been paying for hotels for others in both the US and abroad.

In the US:
I generally get all the elite nights and points for all the rooms (up to 3) when I pay for all 3 and leave my number on it.
All rooms get Platinum Bennies (lounge/free inet), I normally get an upgrade in 1 room.
If my coworkers want points and I still pay for their room they will add their MR# at checkin (they are all at least Gold, so they get lounge/free inet anyway - we haven't tried with non MR G/Plat). Then they get the 13 points/$ and I get the 5 pts/$ for using the Marriott CC.

Overseas:
I get the points for all the rooms and elite nights for 1.
Both rooms got my Platinum Bennies (in Koln, Paris, Heidelberg, Frankfurt), no upgrades in any

I have never had to worry about combining the folio's to get points but it might not be a bad idea as then you only have to track down points from 1 folio if they don't post instead of 3. I also wouldn't be too concerned about having them on the same reservation number. My multi-room reservations always get broken down into 1 room reservation with new conf #'s by the hotels a day or two before I checkin.
