Lounge Access (Virgin flight sold through to Air NZ)

Fancied a bit of a vent because I'm on a hard seat on a corridor in London Heathrow - why do Air NZ put their customers on Virgin flights when they don't transfer any benefits? I bought a RTW with Air NZ for my honeymoon and after the whole Cathay thing through HK I've ended up on one Air NZ flight and therefore no lounge access for most of my trip. Why not just put me on a Star Alliance carrier, I don't get it?

I used to LOVE Air NZ, I recommended them to everyone. After coming from the US carriers I thought they were amazing. Now a sad face, I would rather fly with someone else
