However, an EXP would be able to bump his way onto the very first AA flight out. Most of the time though, you are much better off just taking an alternate connection or flying on a OW partner.
Yes indeed. I was trapped in Dublin during the volcano and every day when they cancelled my flight, I would call up and get them to force a booking on the next flight. Wash, rinse and repeat several times until eventually Aer Lingus started flying a day before AA and actually had seats on the first day out...
Fortunately, this was a work trip and they were willing to pay full-fare to get me home. It was nice to know that once American actually had a plane crossing back over the Atlanta I'd be able to head home.
