Bump. I was wondering if any of my fellow EXPs have ever had occasion to use this "guaranteed availability" benefit. I almost forgot it existed until I was glancing at the loads on a route I am traveling in the next few days, and realized that absolutely EVERYTHING is zeroed out, in all classes of service, on all flights and connections, for at least a week. Yikes! (I am on a small Caribbean island with limited AA and partner flights each day, and it is peak season.) So, if there is any kind of issue, I could be in trouble for getting back on time for work. I know I am probably worried for no reason, but there is an added variable: AA recently contacted me proactively, saying that the J cabin is overbooked on my return due to an equipment change, and offering me compensation to travel in Y on another day. Not a chance! But it did get me thinking that I would be in trouble if there were any issues with my flight, aircraft, crew, etc. Simply no alternatives because everything is sold out.

So, what would happen if I somehow could not travel on my scheduled flight and AA said I would have to wait 3-4 days for the next flight with available seats? Could I use the EXP benefit of guaranteed seating to get a confirmed seat 24 hours later? Or would they backpedal on this benefit?

Also, I'm assuming the nature of the benefit is that AA is willing to bump (and compensate) confirmed non-status passengers in order to accommodate EXPs (even w/ companions) who are willing to pay full-fare Y. Is that right?

(FWIW, years ago, just out of curiosity when I first became EXP, I asked an AAngel, and she had no idea what I was talking about when I referred to guaranteed Y availability for EXPs on sold-out flights.)
