You may try but the earning would not be automatic as the upgrade class is the same as an award booking class and OZ's computers might reject it.

Just make sure you have all documents ready to write to OZ. Like ticket price, ticket coupon, original booking class, boarding pass, email from Krisflyer to say that you upgraded using miles..
