What were you using as a capacity figure for the A380 and 77W? I'm seeing around 850 capacity for an A380 and 550 for a 777-300 using all economy seating. The A380 is also longer ranged. So the A380 has a around 300 more passenger spaces, and a somewhat larger range. If even if normally confirmed (with more than Y), you still have more people, especially more F and J for paying customers.

Also, any airports that are slot restricted (LHR, JFK, etc...),you can't simply add in another plane. Higher capacity is the only way to go.
