Let's try this with a real life example.
My Mother wants to go see my niece from 1/21 to 1/24. The rate at the Redmond Marriott for those dates is $259, a total of $873. It is a class 4 - a lower end property as outlined in this discussion - so it will cost 65K in points.
My Mother is in her 80's and lives in NC, while my niece lives in Seattle and has a life threatening disease.
Is this 3 night stay worth 65K? By most FT standards, NO. But for my Mother - who wants to see her Granddaughter, does not necessarily HAVE $873, but DOES have access to 65K in points, it is.
Stating that using points in low end properties is wasteful can be belittling to those who do so. Every family circumstance is different, and TEHO.
I'm just sayin'....
