In your instance, if it doesn't make sense to fly DL, don't. Actually, for everyone, if it doesn't make sense to fly DL, they shouldn't - regardless of FF program.
With all due respect, it would be nice if people could knock off the ad-hominem arguments and address the facts and issues.
Second, I don't doubt at all that some frequent international flyers have good reasons for flying DL and I have said so repeatedly. The point, however, is that the main reason VFIFs fly DL is because they are either route/hub captives or for reasons dictated by corporate travel polices (most notably ones that allow the purchase of full or near full fare tickets.)
If it weren't for these reasons, very few non-MF VFIFs would be flying on DL.
