That aside, maybe I am in the minority, but I always feel better when checking in with the partner airline and receiving a boarding pass directly from them, even if I already have a boarding pass. That way no surprises happen when trying to board.
I have no issues with obtaining a boarding pass from the operating carrier (and also find that is a good idea), but it is rare that I would claim and recheck my luggage at an intermediate point just to be sure my luggage gets transferred. This goes doubly so on the return flight, when most times I HOPE my checked luggage doesn't come on the same plane. Then the airline delivers it to my doorstep the next day
