I rented a car from Avis at El Calafate Airport a couple of years ago. Not a chance anyone would have stolen it as it looked like it had been through a war! It was the only car left on the lot. They held it for my reservation! It ran and drove fine and I had absolutely no trouble returning it as they were familiar it. I would not have wanted to return this car to another location though. It actually was kind of nice not having to worry about the exterior of the car as a lot of the roads are gravel and the likelihood of a windshield chip or small dents and scratches is very high. I think you should get the insurance if your CC wont cover this.
