I have a Tumi Expandable Alpha and I generally travel with:

Work Laptop (Big 15" HP)
Macbook Pro
iPad
Bose QC15 Headphones (and case)
Snacks
Magazines

And I have plenty of room for my travel docs etc. A little different than a backpack, but it has a lot of nice features.
