I just want to clarify a baggage question: will be flying from PEK-YVR and back: outbound is all on AA, no problems, but the first leg on the return is on westjet. My understanding is that I should get the AA allowance for the return for two reasons: a) AA is the MSC -- since my itin is YVR-LAX-ORD-PEK, so the first two legs are in one sub-area, with the third leg to another area and b) it appears that the whole itinerary should have the same baggage allowance, i.e. AA's (more generous) one.

I don't think the DOT regulations apply, since neither my O or D are the USA, just transit.

Am I correct in my understanding? And how likely will it be that the westjet counter will agree -- hate printing out reams of paper unless I can't avoid it.

thanks,

tb
