However: If the only reason they can't approve you for a new card is that they can't give you enough credit limit, and the solution would be to pull credit limit from another card, they can't pull credit limit from a recently closed card. They can only pull credit limit from a still-open card, and then close it if you wish. That's why you shouldn't proactively cancel Citi cards just before applying for new ones.

It can take as a long a 6 months for the creidt limit of a cancelled card to go back into your "pool" of (automatically) avilalble credit limit for new cards.

When the card drops off the website may not be connected to that. So you need to keep track of when you cancelled, and to be on the very safe side wait 6 months if you're worried about that. (However, not knowing the rest of your situation at Citi, and with credit in general, I don't know if you do need to worry about that. Also, sometimes your credit limit from a cancelled card can become re-available as soon as 3 months, but there's no way to tell other than to "risk" an application.)

The cards take many many months (quite possibly more than 6 months) to automatically drop off the Citi site. (You can always remove them manually if you wish.)
