stayed here end of october. booked a towers deluxe harbour view room and got a towers deluxe harbour view room. room was not large but what we really wanted was the view. we were on the 16th floor, same floor as reception and the lounge. Below are two pics of the view. well, half the view was nice at least. the room had a funky smell to it, kind of like what a men's locker room smells like after a game. in the summer.
went to the lounge and had trouble finding a place to sit. we were squeezed next to a loud group of english speaking people who loudly trying to outdo each other with stories of whose diamonds were more expensive. i went to look for another place to sit and the only two seats i could find were with another couple who didn't mind us sitting at their group of four chairs. we found the ambiance of the lounge to be strange. the selection of food at happy hour was very limited, especially compared to the various other starwoods we stayed at in china.
next morning we went up to the restaurant on the 17th floor and waited 20 minutes to be seated. ordered some eggs benedict and a cup of coffee. the coffee was undrinkable. i like a good cup of coffee yet i'm tolerant of mediocre coffee. i couldn't take more than two sips of this stuff. i asked the server if they had espresso and yes they did so i asked for a latte. it was no better and i had to do without coffee that morning. we had great coffee throughout asia but not at this sheraton. my eggs benedict arrived; two lumps on english muffin halves with baked on sauce. stabbing them did nothing. no yolk came out. they were effectively hard boiled. i went to the buffet and got some toast and jam. breakfast was a disaster. especially considering that this room was over HKD 3,500 a night with taxes.
we decided to cut our losses and checked out from what was supposed to be a four night stay and went to the W.
"W" stands for WOW!!! i'll write a bit about it after this.
I don't know what it was about the Sheraton that just rubbed us the wrong way from the moment we walked in. Just felt a bad vibe and I must admit that it is very subjective. A lot of people rave about this hotel.
